healthcare and ICT

On monday September the 28th more than 25 people came together in Pakhuis de Zwijger to lay the foundation of a projectproposal around Healthcare and ICT.

As a society we know that in 2025 the need for care services will be 40% higher than it is today. But the number of people able to deliver care will be more than 20% lower than it is today. This is a double edged problem as can be seen in the picture below. The challenge for the future is to create technology that is able to lower the need for care (making it possible for people to stay independent longer) and technology that increases productivity. Besides that this technology should work technologically it should also work for the real people.

This meeting is the first step in creating a movement that focuses on unleashing the potential of ICT for real people in healthcare. Organisations involved in this are: Universiteit van Amsterdam, Hogeschool van Amsterdam, INHolland, Vrije Universiteit, Dienst Zorg en Samenleven, Platform Arbeidsmarkt en Onderwijs, UPC, IBM, Logica en AIM. The 26th of November this group organises a conference on this subject too.

During the day we have investigated what each party has to offer and what needs there are. The organisations present ranged from companies, health care institution, knowledge institutions and people from the city of Amsterdam. At the end of the day four profiles have been created for whom the technology should deliver real life solutions. These four profiles are used as the focal point for a project proposal that will be submitted.
